What the real Prosthodontics licensing exam looks like
Candidates for a Prosthodontics licence in the UAE sit a computer-based multiple-choice examination - DHA exam code PRO5051, delivered through Prometric for DHA, MOHAP and SHA, and through Pearson VUE for DOH Abu Dhabi. The DHA pass mark is 60% (DHA CBT Guideline, Sep 2026); other authorities set their own, so confirm yours before booking. The result is reported to you as pass or fail only - your score is never released.
Pass marks at a glance: DHA exam codes and pass marks for all written exams in one sourced table.
The paper is built to a published blueprint, which is why a domain-by-domain diagnostic is more useful than a raw percentage. Your questions above were drawn from across Complete dentures, Fixed prosthodontics, Implant prosthodontics, Diagnosis, treatment planning and occlusion and 2 more - the same areas the real paper weights.
Before you can book the exam at all you need Dataflow primary source verification of your degree, licence and experience, which typically runs several weeks. Candidates routinely underestimate this and end up sitting the exam sooner after study than they planned. Check where you stand with our free eligibility checker or confirm whether your title even requires an exam using the Prometric exam checker.
You get three attempts in total across all UAE authorities - not three each - under the Unified Professional Qualification Requirements. At roughly AED 1,030 per attempt, plus the licensing delay each failure adds to your visa and start date, the cost of going in underprepared is not really the exam fee.

A worked Prosthodontics exam question
Every question in the diagnostic and in the paid bank is written to this standard: a clinical stem, four plausible options and the reasoning for the answer, with its source.
Complete dentures
Where is the posterior palatal seal of a maxillary complete denture placed?
- AAlong the line of the rugae
- BOver the incisive papilla
- CBetween the anterior and posterior vibrating linesCorrect
- DOn the hard palate midway to the rugae
Why: The posterior palatal seal lies in the displaceable soft tissue between the anterior and posterior vibrating lines at the junction of hard and soft palate. It improves retention and reduces food entry under the denture.

Question 1 · Complete dentures
An edentulous maxilla is opposed by natural mandibular anterior teeth and a poorly fitting distal extension partial denture. Which feature is typical of combination syndrome?
- ABone gain in the anterior maxilla
- BLoss of anterior maxillary bone with a flabby ridge
- CBone gain under mandibular distal extensions
- DIntrusion of the mandibular anterior teeth
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. Loss of anterior maxillary bone with a flabby ridge
Combination syndrome includes anterior maxillary bone loss with a flabby ridge, enlarged tuberosities, papillary hyperplasia, extrusion of lower anteriors and bone loss under the distal extension bases. The lower anterior teeth extrude rather than intrude.

Question 2 · Diagnosis, treatment planning and occlusion
A 65-year-old has intact anterior teeth and premolars in both arches but has lost all molars. He is comfortable and chewing satisfactorily. What does the shortened dental arch concept support?
- ABilateral distal extension partial dentures are always indicated
- BNo replacement of molars may be needed if function is adequate
- CImmediate implant replacement of all molars
- DExtraction of premolars for complete dentures
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. No replacement of molars may be needed if function is adequate
The shortened dental arch concept holds that an arch with intact anterior and premolar teeth often provides adequate function and stability, so molar replacement is not mandatory. Distal extension partial dentures add plaque risk and may not improve function.

Question 3 · Fixed prosthodontics
A root-filled premolar is to receive a post, core and crown. What vertical height of sound dentine above the finish line is generally recommended for an effective ferrule?
- A0.5 mm or less
- B1.5 to 2 mm
- C4 to 5 mm
- DNo ferrule is needed with a fibre post
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. 1.5 to 2 mm
A ferrule of about 1.5 to 2 mm of sound tooth structure encircled by the crown significantly improves fracture resistance. Fibre posts do not remove the need for a ferrule.

Question 4 · Dental materials and laboratory procedures
Which gypsum product is most suitable for dies in fixed prosthodontics?
- AType II model plaster with low strength
- BType III dental stone for model bases
- CType IV high-strength, low-expansion stone
- DType I impression plaster, fast setting
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: C. Type IV high-strength, low-expansion stone
Type IV die stone combines high strength and abrasion resistance with low setting expansion, suitable for dies. Type II plaster is weak and used for mounting and study models.

How to use this diagnostic properly
- 1Sit it cold, once. Do not look anything up. A diagnostic you help yourself through tells you nothing. The number you get is only useful if it is honest.
- 2Read every rationale - especially the ones you got right. Getting a question right by elimination is not the same as knowing it. The worked reasoning is free above, whether or not you buy anything.
- 3Work weakest domain first. The breakdown orders your domains worst-first for exactly this reason. Studying what you are already good at feels productive and moves nothing.
- 4Re-sit under full exam conditions later. The real paper is far longer than this and stamina matters. Full-length timed papers are what the paid bank is for.
