A short diagnostic cannot predict whether you will pass - only the real exam does that. It will show you, honestly, where you currently stand.

What the real Dentist (General) licensing exam looks like

Dentist (General)s applying to practise in the UAE sit a computer-based multiple-choice examination - DHA exam code GDE5081, delivered through Prometric for DHA, MOHAP and SHA, and through Pearson VUE for DOH Abu Dhabi. The pass mark is 60%, and the result is reported to you as pass or fail only - your score is never released.

The paper is built to a published blueprint, which is why a domain-by-domain diagnostic is more useful than a raw percentage. Your questions above were drawn one per domain across Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Pediatric Dentistry, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology & Diagnostic Sciences, Orthodontics and 5 more - the same areas the real paper weights.

Before you can book the exam at all you need Dataflow primary source verification of your degree, licence and experience, which typically runs several weeks. Candidates routinely underestimate this and end up sitting the exam sooner after study than they planned. Check where you stand with our free eligibility checker or confirm whether your title even requires an exam using the Prometric exam checker.

You get three attempts in total across all UAE authorities - not three each - under the Unified Professional Qualification Requirements. At roughly AED 1,030 per attempt, plus the licensing delay each failure adds to your visa and start date, the cost of going in underprepared is not really the exam fee.

What is on the Dentist (General) exam: the full blueprint

The published blueprint splits into 9 domains and 154 testable sub-topics. The diagnostic above samples across all of them, which is why its breakdown maps onto the structure the real paper is built from.

Questions
~150-300 depending on authority (DHA/MOHAP/DOH/QCHP/OMSB/NHRA ~100-150 single-best-answer MCQs; SCFHS SDLE = 300 MCQs in three blocks of 100, up to 30 pilot/unscored)
Duration
~2.5-3 hours for GCC Prometric exams (DHA ~150 min-170 min); SCFHS SDLE = 6 hours total (three 120-min blocks plus 45 min pooled break)
Pass mark
60% for most authorities (DHA 60%, MOHAP/DOH ~60%); SCFHS SDLE scaled score 542 on a 200-800 scale (~65% equivalent). DHA also requires scoring above 60% in at least one core subject (Prosthodontics, Oral Surgery, or Periodontics)

Computer-based, single-best-answer MCQs with four options; no negative marking. Exact question count, duration and pass mark vary by authority and must be verified against the current Prometric candidate information bulletin / health-authority page at time of booking. SCFHS publishes an official blueprint (Appendix B of the SDLE Applicant Guide) with fixed domain weights subject to +/-5% per form; DHA/DOH/MOHAP/QCHP/OMSB/NHRA do not publish granular per-form weights, so their weights below are evidence-based estimates aligned to the SCFHS blueprint which is the common GCC standard.

A worked Dentist (General) exam question

Every question in the diagnostic and in the paid bank is written to this standard: a clinical stem, four plausible options and the reasoning for the answer, with its source.

Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

A patient with recurrent, painful TMJ closed lock and internal derangement has failed conservative therapy. Which minimally invasive procedure lyses adhesions and lavages the upper joint space, often as the next step before open surgery?

  1. ATotal alloplastic joint replacement
  2. BArthrocentesis (with or without arthroscopy)Correct
  3. COrthognathic bimaxillary surgery
  4. DCoronoidectomy

Why: Arthrocentesis (lavage and lysis of adhesions of the superior joint space), sometimes combined with arthroscopy, is the minimally invasive next step after failed conservative treatment for internal derangement/closed lock, improving mobility and reducing pain. Total joint replacement and open surgery are reserved for advanced or end-stage disease, and orthognathic surgery and coronoidectomy address different problems.

How to use this diagnostic properly

  1. 1Sit it cold, once. Do not look anything up. A diagnostic you help yourself through tells you nothing. The number you get is only useful if it is honest.
  2. 2Read every rationale - especially the ones you got right. Getting a question right by elimination is not the same as knowing it. The worked reasoning is free above, whether or not you buy anything.
  3. 3Work weakest domain first. The breakdown orders your domains worst-first for exactly this reason. Studying what you are already good at feels productive and moves nothing.
  4. 4Re-sit under full exam conditions later. The real paper is far longer than this and stamina matters. Full-length timed papers are what the paid bank is for.
