Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital opened in Doha in 2007 as the first specialised orthopaedic and sports medicine hospital in the Middle East. It sits in Aspire Zone, next to Khalifa International Stadium, and is part of the Aspire Zone Foundation, Qatar's state-owned sports and events complex.

The hospital treats athletes of every level, from Qatar's national teams and sports clubs to the general public, across sports medicine, orthopaedic surgery, rehabilitation, sports science and diagnostic services. Through its national sports medicine work it also supplies club and federation doctors and physiotherapists to Qatar's sports bodies.

Aspetar's international standing comes from its recognitions. FIFA named it a FIFA Medical Centre of Excellence in 2009, the International Olympic Committee made it an IOC Research Centre for Prevention of Injury and Protection of Athlete Health in 2014, and it became an International Handball Federation reference centre in 2015 and an AFC Medical Centre of Excellence in 2020.

For quality, the hospital is accredited by Accreditation Canada International at Diamond level (2018) and reported 100% compliance with Accreditation Canada's Qmentum International standards in 2021. In 2024 it gained ACGME International accreditation as a sponsoring institution for graduate medical education.

During the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, Aspetar was the exclusive provider of athlete medical services for all 32 participating teams. For physiotherapists, sports physicians, orthopaedic surgeons and sports scientists, it is one of the most specialised employers in the Gulf.
