  • You get 72 seconds per question, the pace of a 150-question paper in 3 hours. The timer runs in your browser and ends the sitting when it reaches zero.
  • Your score is set against the 60% SCFHS pass mark, the published figure for this exam. No other number is invented: there is no percentile and no pass probability.
  • At the end you see your score, your pace per question, every domain ranked weakest first, and the worked answer and source for all 25 questions.
  • You can mark each answer “sure” or “not sure”. Wrong answers you were sure about are shown first, because they are the ones you would not stop to check in the real exam.
  • Your last result is saved in your own browser only, so you can come back and compare. Nothing is sent to us.

What the real Social Service Specialist licensing exam looks like

The Social Service Specialist exam is a computer-based multiple-choice paper, published by one regulator: SCFHS (pass mark 60%). DHA do not license it. Every regulator's format, pass mark and fee is in the table below; confirm yours before booking.

Pass marks at a glance: exam codes and pass marks by regulator for every written exam in one sourced table.

Before you can book the exam at all you need Dataflow primary source verification of your degree, licence and experience, which typically runs several weeks. Candidates often underestimate this and end up sitting the exam sooner after study than they planned. Check where you stand with our free eligibility checker or confirm whether your title even requires an exam using the Prometric exam checker.

You get three attempts in total across all UAE authorities, not three each, under the Unified Professional Qualification Requirements. At roughly AED 880 per attempt, plus the licensing delay each failure adds to your visa and start date, the cost of going in underprepared is not really the exam fee.

How to use your mock score

These bands are set against the 60% SCFHS pass mark and match the verdict on your result screen. On 25 questions, a score near the pass mark has a 95% margin of error of about ±19 points, so treat the band as a direction, not a forecast.

Below 55%

Below the line

On this sample you would likely fall short of the 60% pass mark today. Do not book yet. Start with your two weakest domains from the result, then sit full-length papers until you clear the line with room to spare.

55% to 69%

Close to the line

A few questions decide it. On a 150-question paper, every 1% is one or two questions, so drill your weakest domains and build a margin on timed papers before you book.

70% and above

On track

Clear of the pass mark on this sample. 25 questions is a small sample, so confirm it over full-length timed papers before you book: stamina and pacing fail candidates who know the material.

Getting an honest score

  1. 1Sit it cold, once. Do not look anything up. A diagnostic you help yourself through tells you nothing. The number you get is only useful if it is honest.
  2. 2Read every rationale, especially the ones you got right. Getting a question right by elimination is not the same as knowing it. The worked reasoning is free, whether or not you buy anything.
  3. 3Work on your weakest domain first. The breakdown orders your domains worst first for exactly this reason. Studying what you are already good at feels productive and moves nothing.
  4. 4Re-sit under full exam conditions later. The real paper is much longer than 25 questions and stamina matters. The full bank's 3 to 6 papers are written for exactly this.

A worked Social Service Specialist exam question

Every question in the mock and in the paid bank is written to this standard: a clinical stem, four plausible options and the reasoning for the answer, with its source.

Family Violence

A woman with injuries attends the emergency department with her husband, who insists on staying with her. What should the social worker do?

  1. AInterview both together, to avoid upsetting him
  2. BAsk her about the injuries while her husband is present
  3. CArrange to interview her alone in a private, safe settingCorrect
  4. DTake her husband's account first and then compare it with hers

Why: Disclosure is unsafe and unlikely with the suspected abuser present, so a private interview is standard. Joint questioning or relying on his account risks her safety and the truth.

  1. Question 1 · Family Violence

A 6-year-old has belt-shaped bruises and gives an evasive account. What is the correct action for a hospital social worker?

    1. AAsk the parents to agree first, before making a report
    2. BWait for a second injury before taking action
    3. CReport to the child protection team and document the findings
    4. DConfront the parents first and wait for them to admit the cause of the injuries
    Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: C. Report to the child protection team and document the findings

Practitioners who suspect child abuse must report it under the Child Protection System, and parental consent is not required. Waiting for a repeat injury or an admission leaves the child at risk.

Reference: Child Protection System (Royal Decree M/14, 1436H); NASW Code of Ethics (2021 revision), Standard 1.07

  2. Question 2 · Human Development, Diversity and Behaviour in the Environment

A terminally ill 78-year-old man spends sessions reviewing his life and voices regret about a lost bond with his son. Which Erikson crisis does this reflect?

    1. AInitiative versus guilt, the task of early childhood
    2. BIntegrity versus despair
    3. CIntimacy versus isolation, the task of young adults
    4. DGenerativity versus stagnation, the task of middle age
    Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: B. Integrity versus despair

Late life brings a review of one's life, and regret can lead to despair rather than a sense of integrity. Generativity versus stagnation is the task of middle age, intimacy versus isolation of young adulthood, and initiative versus guilt of early childhood.

Reference: Zastrow CH, Kirst-Ashman KK, Understanding Human Behavior and the Social Environment, 10th ed. (2016)

  3. Question 3 · Marital and Family Therapy

A therapist asks a couple, 'If a miracle happened tonight and the problem was gone, what would be different tomorrow?' Which approach is this?

    1. ASolution-focused brief therapy
    2. BBowen family systems therapy, which raises differentiation
    3. CStructural family therapy, which restructures boundaries
    4. DNarrative therapy, which externalises the problem
    Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: A. Solution-focused brief therapy

The miracle question is a defining technique of solution-focused therapy, which builds on goals rather than analysing problems. Narrative therapy externalises the problem, structural therapy changes boundaries, and Bowen therapy works on differentiation.

Reference: de Shazer S, Keys to Solution in Brief Therapy (1985)

  4. Question 4 · Marital and Family Therapy

A mother is intensely involved in her son's life while the father stays distant. In structural family therapy, what is the main problem?

    1. AEnmeshed mother-son boundaries and a weak parental subsystem
    2. BA rigid boundary between the mother and her son
    3. CA lack of communication about the family's money
    4. DTriangulation of the grandparents into the family
    Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: A. Enmeshed mother-son boundaries and a weak parental subsystem

Minuchin described enmeshment as diffuse boundaries and over-involvement, treated by restructuring boundaries. A rigid boundary is the opposite, and the other options are not described.

Reference: Minuchin S, Families and Family Therapy (1974)

  5. Question 5 · Human Development, Diversity and Behaviour in the Environment

A 14-year-old with epilepsy can think through what might happen if he stops his medication. Which Piaget stage does this show?

    1. AConcrete operational
    2. BPreoperational
    3. CFormal operational
    4. DSensorimotor
    Show answer and explanation

    Correct answer: C. Formal operational

Hypothetical and abstract reasoning about future consequences marks the formal operational stage. Concrete operational thought is tied to real objects, and the other stages belong to younger children.

Reference: Zastrow and Kirst-Ashman, Understanding Human Behavior and the Social Environment, 10th ed. (2016)

  6. Question 6 · Patient and Family Problems

The family of a dying man wants to take him home. What is the best role for the social worker?

    1. AAdvise against it, because a hospital gives better comfort and symptom control than a home
    2. BLeave the arrangements to the family and close the case at discharge
    3. CRefer to a funeral service and make no further contact
    4. DArrange home palliative care, equipment, family training and bereavement support
    Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: D. Arrange home palliative care, equipment, family training and bereavement support

Social workers support the patient's wishes with practical planning and support for carers before and after death. Discouraging home care or withdrawing leaves the family unsupported.

Reference: WHO, Palliative Care Fact Sheet (2020)

  7. Question 7 · Patient and Family Problems

A patient with a low income cannot pay for medicines and transport to follow-up visits. Which role fits the social worker best?

    1. ABroker, by checking eligibility and linking him to charities and state support
    2. BTherapist, by treating the anxiety that he feels about money and the cost of his illness
    3. CResearcher, by surveying other patients who have a low income too
    4. DEducator, by teaching him how to budget his income more carefully
    Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: A. Broker, by checking eligibility and linking him to charities and state support

The broker role links people to resources they need and cannot reach alone. Therapy, research and budgeting classes do not solve the immediate lack of money.

Reference: Hepworth et al., Direct Social Work Practice: Theory and Skills, 10th ed. (2017)

  8. Question 8 · Mental Health and Addiction

A smoker has booked a place at the clinic and has chosen to quit next week. At which stage of change is he?

    1. AContemplation
    2. BPreparation
    3. CAction
    4. DMaintenance
    Show answer and explanation

    Correct answer: B. Preparation

Setting a date and taking first steps marks preparation. Contemplation is thinking about change, action is the behaviour itself and maintenance is keeping it going.

Reference: Prochaska and DiClemente, Stages and processes of self-change of smoking, J Consult Clin Psychol (1983)

  9. Question 9 · Social Work Skills

A social worker feels irritated by an elderly male patient who reminds her of her critical father. What is this called?

    1. ATransference
    2. BProjection by the patient
    3. CCountertransference
    4. DEmpathy
    Show answer and explanation

    Correct answer: C. Countertransference

Countertransference is the worker's emotional reaction to a client, based on her own history, and is explored in supervision. Transference is the client's feeling towards the worker.

Reference: Hepworth et al., Direct Social Work Practice: Theory and Skills, 10th ed. (2017)

  10. Question 10 · Marital and Family Therapy

In structural family therapy, a therapist temporarily sides with a weaker family member to shift the balance of power. Which technique is this?

    1. AUnbalancing, by backing one member's position
    2. BJoining, by accommodating to the family style
    3. CEnactment, by asking members to act out the problem
    4. DTracking, by following the family's own words and themes
    Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: A. Unbalancing, by backing one member's position

Unbalancing deliberately supports one member to change a rigid pattern. Joining builds the alliance, enactment has the family act out the problem, and tracking follows the family's own communications.

Reference: Minuchin, Families and Family Therapy (1974)

Frequently asked questions

Is this Social Service Specialist mock test really free?
Yes. All 25 questions, your score, the domain breakdown and the full worked answers are free, with no sign-up, no email and no payment. The paid Social Service Specialist bank is a separate, much larger set of 450+ questions across 3 to 6 papers at AED 269.
Are these real Social Service Specialist exam questions?
No. They are original questions written to the published Social Service Specialist blueprint and drawn from our full bank, not leaked or recalled items. Recalled questions breach exam security rules and are often out of date. These follow the exam's format and domain weighting.
What is the pass mark for the Social Service Specialist exam?
By regulator: SCFHS (pass mark 60%), each from the regulator's own exam documents. Regulators not listed publish no figure for this exam, so confirm yours before booking. Most report only pass or fail and never release your score, which is why a diagnostic like this is useful.
How long is the Social Service Specialist exam and how many questions?
SCFHS: 150 MCQs in 180 minutes, from each regulator's own exam documents. Regulators not listed publish no length for this exam, so confirm theirs in the current candidate bulletin.
What topics does the Social Service Specialist exam cover?
The published blueprint has 8 domains and 55 testable sub-topics. The heaviest are Human Development, Diversity and Behaviour in the Environment (15%), Professional Relationship, Values and Ethics (15%) and Patient and Family Problems (15%). The full domain list with weights is on this page.
How is the full Social Service Specialist bank different from this mock?
This mock is 25 questions across 8 of the 8 blueprint domains, enough to rank your domains. The full bank is 450+ questions in 3 to 6 full-length papers of about 150 questions, covering every domain, with about 68 questions on Human Development, Diversity and Behaviour in the Environment alone. Every question has a worked rationale and a reference. It costs AED 269, paid once.
What score should I aim for on this Social Service Specialist mock?
Aim for at least 70%, which is 10 points over the 60% SCFHS pass mark. Below 55% you would likely fall short today; between 55% and 69% a few questions decide it. On 25 questions a score near the pass mark has a margin of error of about ±19 points, so read it as a direction.
Does passing this mock mean I will pass the real exam?
No, and we will not claim otherwise. 25 questions cannot predict a full-length paper: the margin of error is about ±19 points. What it does reliably show is which blueprint domains you are weakest in, so you know where to start.
Which regulators is this Social Service Specialist mock for?
It is written to the shared Social Service Specialist blueprint, so it fits SCFHS. SCFHS publishes an exam for this exact title. DHA does not license it. What changes by regulator is the length, the pass mark and the local regulation questions.
How many attempts do I get at the real exam?
In the UAE, three in total across DHA, DOH, MOHAP and SHA under the Unified Professional Qualification Requirements, not three per authority. Each attempt costs roughly AED 880, which is why it pays to find your weak domains first.
