Overview of Al Razi Hospital
Al Razi Orthopedic Hospital is the Kuwait Ministry of Health's specialist orthopaedic hospital. It sits in the Al-Sabah Medical District in Shuwaikh, Kuwait City, alongside Al-Sabah Hospital, Ibn Sina Hospital and the Kuwait Cancer Control Center, and receives orthopaedic referrals from across the country's public health system.
The hospital is named after the Persian physician Abu Bakr al-Razi. Its work covers the full range of musculoskeletal care: fractures and orthopaedic trauma, joint replacement, paediatric orthopaedics and the physiotherapy and rehabilitation that follow surgery. Its inpatient wards are separated for men, women and children, and an orthopaedic emergency service runs alongside them.
The Ministry of Health commissioned Gulf Consult to design a 12-storey, 240-bed extension to the existing Al Razi Hospital on the Shuwaikh campus. According to the design consultant, the 33,410 square metre building holds physiotherapy and radiology departments and ten floors of inpatient wards, with the basement reserved for future expansion. We could not confirm a current total bed count for the whole hospital, so we do not quote one.
Al Razi has added specialised services in recent years. In December 2022 it opened a joint hypermobility clinic in its outpatient and specialised clinics building, described at the time as the first of its kind in the Middle East, using 3D motion analysis to assess gait. In July 2026 the Ministry announced that the hospital's joint replacement team had introduced an enhanced recovery protocol for knee replacement, under which some patients stand and walk within hours of surgery and suitable patients can go home the same day.
For healthcare professionals, Al Razi offers concentrated orthopaedic experience in a high-volume government setting. Nurses, physiotherapists, radiographers and theatre staff work almost entirely with musculoskeletal patients, which suits candidates who want to build a specialist orthopaedic or rehabilitation career in Kuwait.

Careers at Al Razi Hospital (2026)
Al Razi recruits orthopaedic surgeons, registrars, nurses, operating theatre staff, physiotherapists, radiographers, pharmacists and laboratory staff. As a Ministry of Health hospital, staff are employed on MOH contracts with tax-free salaries; MOH packages for expatriates generally include allowances on top of basic pay, and the exact package depends on your grade and contract. The hospital suits professionals who want deep specialist experience in orthopaedics, joint replacement and rehabilitation rather than general hospital work.
To work at Al Razi Hospital, healthcare professionals typically need a valid Kuwait license from Ministry of Health Kuwait. Neelim's licensing service handles the entire application process, including Dataflow PSV and Prometric exam registration.
Typical Roles
Hiring Process
Al Razi does not run its own public jobs portal. Expatriate staff are hired by the Kuwait Ministry of Health, which assigns them to hospitals, so the routes are MOH overseas recruitment campaigns and recruitment agencies licensed in your own country (for example eMigrate-registered agents in India or DMW-licensed agencies in the Philippines). Every clinical hire needs a Kuwait Ministry of Health licence. The usual sequence is: an employer or MOH recruitment channel selects you, your credentials go through primary source verification (DataFlow; physicians are also verified through ECFMG's EPIC service), the file is lodged with the MOH Medical Licensing Department, and you sit the Kuwait MOH licensing exam at a Prometric centre where your category requires it. Legitimate MOH recruitment does not require large upfront payments for a promised post, so check any agency against your home regulator before sending documents.
Neelim's career guidance team can help you navigate this process and prepare for interviews.
