About DHA
Dubai Health Authority (DHA) regulates all healthcare professionals and facilities in the Emirate of Dubai. Whether you are a physician, nurse, pharmacist, or allied health professional, a DHA license is your gateway to working in Dubai's thriving private and public healthcare sectors. All applications are processed through the Sheryan portal, DHA's unified digital licensing platform.
The DHA licensing process involves credential verification through Dataflow PSV, a computer-based Prometric exam specific to DHA, and a multi-stage application review. Dubai attracts top-tier talent with tax-free salaries, world-class facilities, and a cosmopolitan lifestyle that makes it one of the most sought-after healthcare destinations globally.
DHA maintains a separate exam and recognized-institutions list from other UAE authorities such as DOH and MOHAP. A license issued by DHA is valid only within the Emirate of Dubai. Professionals holding licenses from other UAE authorities must apply for a new DHA license or transfer if they wish to practice in Dubai.

DHA requires a BSN (4-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing) from a recognized institution plus a minimum of 2 years clinical experience. Diploma nurses with extensive experience may qualify under certain conditions. Midwives must hold a recognized midwifery qualification. The nursing Prometric exam covers general and specialty-specific clinical knowledge.
Allied Health Professionals

Common Mistakes to Avoid
These are the most common reasons DHA applications get delayed or rejected. Neelim ensures you avoid every one of them.
Submitting documents without proper attestation — DHA rejects unauthenticated certificates outright.
Using DOH or MOHAP Prometric exam results — DHA requires its own authority-specific Prometric exam.
Incomplete Dataflow case — missing even one employer or institution leads to a 'discrepancy' status and weeks of delay.
Not checking the DHA recognized-institutions list before applying — some universities accepted by other authorities are not accepted by DHA.
Letting your good standing certificate expire during the process — DHA requires it to be less than 6 months old at the time of review.
Applying for the wrong professional category or title — mismatches between your qualification and the applied title cause automatic rejection.

DHA Licensing FAQ
Answers to the most common questions about Dubai Health Authority licensing.
The typical DHA licensing timeline is 12-20 weeks if you handle everything yourself, or 8-12 weeks with professional assistance from Neelim. The longest component is Dataflow PSV, which takes 4-8 weeks. You can prepare for the Prometric exam in parallel to save time.
The DHA Prometric exam is a computer-based test with multiple-choice questions specific to your profession and specialty. Pass rates vary, but with focused preparation using authority-specific study materials, most well-qualified candidates pass on their first attempt. The exam tests clinical knowledge relevant to practice in the UAE context.
You cannot directly transfer a DOH or MOHAP license to DHA. You must apply for a new DHA license through the Sheryan portal. However, your existing Dataflow PSV results may be transferable if they are still valid, which can save significant time. You will still need to pass the DHA-specific Prometric exam.
Sheryan (sheryan.dha.gov.ae) is DHA's official online licensing portal. All DHA license applications, renewals, transfers, and upgrades are processed exclusively through Sheryan. You create an account, submit your application and documents, track your status, and receive your digital license through this platform.
DHA generally requires a 4-year BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) from a recognized institution. Three-year diploma nurses may face restrictions and are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Some diploma holders with extensive experience (10+ years) and additional certifications may qualify. Neelim can assess your specific situation.
DHA licensing fees include the application fee (approximately AED 2,000-3,000), Dataflow PSV fee (approximately USD 200-350), and the Prometric exam fee (approximately USD 230-350 depending on category). Additional fees apply for license issuance, renewal, and facility assignment. Fees are updated periodically on the Sheryan portal.
DHA offers exam exemptions on a case-by-case basis for candidates holding certain high-level board certifications, such as US board certification, UK CCT, Canadian Royal College fellowship, or Australian/NZ fellowship. Exemption is not guaranteed and depends on your specific qualification and the profession category.
DHA professional licenses are valid for 2 years and must be renewed before expiry. Renewal requires completion of CME/CPD credit hours (the exact number varies by profession), an active facility assignment, and a valid residency visa. DHA tightened CME requirements in 2023-2024, so ensure you track your credits throughout the license period.
