A short diagnostic cannot predict whether you will pass - only the real exam does that. It will show you, honestly, where you currently stand.

What the real Speech & Language Pathologist licensing exam looks like

Speech & Language Pathologists applying to practise in the UAE sit a computer-based multiple-choice examination - DHA exam code SPL6732, delivered through Prometric for DHA, MOHAP and SHA, and through Pearson VUE for DOH Abu Dhabi. The pass mark is 60%, and the result is reported to you as pass or fail only - your score is never released.

The paper is built to a published blueprint, which is why a domain-by-domain diagnostic is more useful than a raw percentage. Your questions above were drawn one per domain across Paediatric Language, Literacy & Social Communication Disorders, Hearing, Audiology & Aural Rehabilitation, Dysphagia: Feeding & Swallowing Across the Lifespan, Motor Speech Disorders: Dysarthria & Apraxia and 9 more - the same areas the real paper weights.

Before you can book the exam at all you need Dataflow primary source verification of your degree, licence and experience, which typically runs several weeks. Candidates routinely underestimate this and end up sitting the exam sooner after study than they planned. Check where you stand with our free eligibility checker or confirm whether your title even requires an exam using the Prometric exam checker.

You get three attempts in total across all UAE authorities - not three each - under the Unified Professional Qualification Requirements. At roughly AED 880 per attempt, plus the licensing delay each failure adds to your visa and start date, the cost of going in underprepared is not really the exam fee.

What is on the Speech & Language Pathologist exam: the full blueprint

The published blueprint splits into 13 domains and 240 testable sub-topics. The diagnostic above samples across all of them, which is why its breakdown maps onto the structure the real paper is built from.

DHA (Dubai) exam code SPL6732 - 100 single-best-answer MCQs, 3 hours, 60% pass mark, computer-based at Prometric test centres. Other GCC authorities differ and MUST be verified on the current candidate bulletin: DOH Abu Dhabi delivers its licensure assessments through Pearson VUE (typically 100-150 items, 2-3 hours, cut score set by standard setting); MOHAP (UAE federal) uses Prometric-delivered assessments broadly aligned with DHA; SCFHS (Saudi Arabia) uses profession-and-level specific blueprints (Technician / Specialist / Senior Specialist / Consultant) with commonly 100-150 MCQs, 2-3 hours and a 60% pass; QCHP/DHP (Qatar) accepts Prometric assessments or approved international credentials; NHRA (Bahrain) and OMSB (Oman) run comparable Prometric-based licensure examinations. All authorities require DataFlow primary-source verification of the qualification before booking. There is no single published GCC content outline for speech-language pathology, so the domain structure below is mapped to the ETS/ASHA Praxis Speech-Language Pathology (5331) blueprint - the recognised national examination for the profession, 132 selected-response items in 150 minutes, weighted I. Foundations and Professional Practice 33%, II. Screening, Assessment, Evaluation and Diagnosis 33%, III. Planning, Implementation and Evaluation of Treatment 33% - covering the ASHA 'big nine': speech sound production; fluency; voice, resonance and motor speech; receptive and expressive language; social aspects of communication (pragmatics); cognitive aspects of communication; augmentative and alternative communication; hearing; and feeding and swallowing. Weights marked '(est.)' are evidence-based estimates derived from that blueprint plus the GCC authorities' consistent emphasis on patient safety, ethics, infection control and scope of practice.

A worked Speech & Language Pathologist exam question

Every question in the diagnostic and in the paid bank is written to this standard: a clinical stem, four plausible options and the reasoning for the answer, with its source.

Paediatric Language, Literacy & Social Communication Disorders

Following robust vocabulary instruction principles, which words should be prioritised for explicit teaching with a 10-year-old with language disorder?

  1. ATier 1 basic everyday words such as 'happy', 'walk' and 'dog'
  2. BRare technical Tier 3 words specific to a single science topic
  3. COnly words the child has spontaneously asked about
  4. DTier 2 high-utility academic words such as 'reluctant', 'analyse' and 'contrast' that recur across texts and subjectsCorrect

Why: Robust vocabulary instruction targets Tier 2 words: mature, high-frequency-in-text words of wide utility across contexts, which yield the greatest gains in comprehension and academic access. Tier 1 words are usually already known, and Tier 3 words are narrow, low-frequency and best taught briefly at the point of need within a specific subject. Restricting teaching to child-initiated words provides insufficient and unsystematic coverage.

How to use this diagnostic properly

  1. 1Sit it cold, once. Do not look anything up. A diagnostic you help yourself through tells you nothing. The number you get is only useful if it is honest.
  2. 2Read every rationale - especially the ones you got right. Getting a question right by elimination is not the same as knowing it. The worked reasoning is free above, whether or not you buy anything.
  3. 3Work weakest domain first. The breakdown orders your domains worst-first for exactly this reason. Studying what you are already good at feels productive and moves nothing.
  4. 4Re-sit under full exam conditions later. The real paper is far longer than this and stamina matters. Full-length timed papers are what the paid bank is for.
