Your title also depends on years of specialty experience, the issuing country of your qualification, and document review — especially for the Specialist vs Consultant tiers. This is a guide, not a ruling.

Why your professional title is the most important decision

More than almost anything else, your cadre shapes your Gulf career. It sets the exam you take, the roles you can hold, and your salary band. Two applicants with identical degrees can be classified differently based on a single postgraduate qualification or a couple of years of specialty experience.

That's why getting your classification right the first time matters — a stronger title means a stronger offer.

How the tiers are decided

Classification is driven by two things: your highest recognised qualification and your relevant experience. Diplomas map to the entry/technician tiers; a bachelor's degree unlocks the Staff Nurse / GP / Pharmacist level; a postgraduate specialty qualification moves you to Specialist; and a high-tier board or doctorate reaches Senior Specialist / Consultant. The exact experience thresholds — especially the Specialist-vs-Consultant line — depend on document review and the issuing country of your credential.

How to climb to a higher tier

If the classifier lands you a tier below where you'd like to be, the path up is clear: earn a recognised postgraduate qualification in your specialty and accumulate the required verified experience. Confirm your current standing with the eligibility checker and explore the detailed authority requirements to plan your route. We can map the exact qualifications and experience you'd need to upgrade.

Frequently asked questions

A Registered Nurse holds a bachelor's in nursing with a valid RN licence (and under the current DHA PQR needs no prior experience). A Specialty Nurse additionally holds a clinical Master's/postgraduate specialty qualification plus one year of experience in that specialty, which commands a higher salary band. A Nurse Practitioner is a further tier again (clinical Master's/Doctorate + national NP certification + 2 years).

A Specialist holds a recognised postgraduate specialty qualification — and under the current DHA PQR needs no post-qualification experience if it's from a Tier 1 or Tier 2 country (Tier 3 needs 3 years). A Consultant needs a top-tier credential plus post-specialisation experience by country tier: Tier 1 = 2 years after the main specialty, Tier 2 = 5 years. Tier 3 countries generally cannot reach Consultant.

Saudi's SCFHS uses a ladder of Technician → Specialist → Senior Specialist → Consultant, driven mainly by your qualification level (diploma → bachelor → master's → PhD/fellowship) and experience, verified through the Mumaris+ system.

Your title (cadre) defines your scope of practice, the exam you sit, and your salary band. The same person can be a 'Staff Nurse' or 'Specialised Nurse' depending on their postgraduate qualifications — and the pay difference is significant.

Yes, especially at the top. The Consultant tier generally requires a postgraduate credential from a Tier-1 country. Where your degree and board certification were issued can change which tier you're placed in.
